Domestic and drinking water

When it comes to potable water systems, no compromises are permitted: maximum hygiene must be guaranteed and the risk of bacterial contamination (such as legionella) or the release of harmful substances must be prevented. The material that best meets these requirements is undoubtedly AISI 316L stainless steel and numerous industry studies confirm this. Both plastic, due to its chemical composition, and iron, due to its sensitivity to corrosion can release pollutants. Even copper, although much more noble, can be subject to oxidation. Therefore, for new construction or renovations, the best choice for domestic water systems is to use stainless steel pipes and fittings. Pressfittings in the Eurotubi Pressfitting AISI 316L line (available in both M and V profiles) are certified according to German DVGW W534 technical specifications, the European reference standard for potable water.

Heating

A closed circuit heating system with cast iron, steel, or aluminium radiators is where Eurotubi Pressfitting System carbon steel pipes and fittings are typically used. Modern radiant heating systems (floor, wall, or ceiling) require the use of flexible pipes in the end sections, but for first level distribution (from the boiler to the apartments) rigid metal solutions are often required.
In prestigious contexts and projects with high budgets, stainless steel can also be used (316L fittings and 316L or 304 pipes), while carbon steel is perfectly suitable and also more affordable.

Hydronic air conditioning

One application of the Eurotubi Pressfitting system, especially in the industrial, commercial, hospitality, and hospital sectors, is hot/cold climate control with plumbing circuits and fan coil terminals (or fan convectors). One of the many advantages of this air conditioning system (compared to split air conditioning units) is that it can be combined with renewable energy sources from an eco-sustainable point of view (solar panels, biomass boiler fireplaces/boilers, etc.).
While both STAINLESS steel and CARBON steel are suitable for circulating hot water, the latter is not very suitable for conveying chilled water since the formation of condensation on the external surface (due to the thermal excursion) could trigger localised corrosion where perfect insulation is not achieved. For this reason, stainless steel (AISI 316L or AISI 304) with the proper insulation is much more suitable and longer lasting.


Cooling

When the system is dedicated exclusively to heating, cooling is in turn implemented independently with gas or water solutions, depending on specific needs. In industrial contexts, coolers supplied with chilled water are the best choice in terms of efficiency and energy savings. For this specific application, the use of STAINLESS steel pipes and fittings is the optimal solution due to its corrosion resistance and durability. CARBON steel is less expensive but requires perfect insulation since the distribution of chilled water can create condensation (due to the thermal excursion), which could trigger localised corrosion.

Compressed air

One field of application where the steel pressfitting system expresses all its superior quality is the distribution of compressed air, typically in the industrial sector.
Both carbon steel and AISI 316L stainless steel pressfittings work well for this purpose. Both support temperatures between -20°C and +120°C and a maximum pressure of 16 bar. Carbon steel is very conveniently priced. A slightly more costly alternative but with superior characteristics is using fittings in AISI 316L stainless steel and pipes in AISI 304 stainless steel.

In compressed air systems there may be oil particles. If a quantity of 5 mg/m3 is expected, fittings with the FPM/FKM O-ring (red) should be used


Fire extinguishing systems

There are different types of fire extinguishing systems based on the type of extinguishing agent used: foam, air, or water with sprinklers. While all of these systems are traditionally built using galvanised steel with welded or threaded joints or with groove fittings, the Eurotubi pressfitting system is the ideal alternative in both carbon steel (for wet sprinkler systems) and 316L stainless steel (both wet and dry). Solar Thermal Energy

The future of construction and system engineering is increasingly oriented towards environmental responsibility. Heating obtained from solar energy is a growing industry because it allows emissions and atmospheric pollution to be lowered. As for methane heating, both AISI 316 L stainless steel (for any type of circuit) and carbon steel (only for CLOSED circuits) can be used. In both cases the fittings are equipped with a specific O-ring in FPM rubber (green). Using steel is a choice consistent with ecological vision, as it is a fully recyclable material.

Oils

One typically industrial application involves systems for conveying oily substances such as lubricant fluids or fuels. For this specific use (excluding oils for use in food), both the AISI 316L stainless steel and carbon steel systems can be used (the latter as long as the total absence of air and perfect insulation is guaranteed). In both cases, the fittings will be equipped with the specific O-ring in FPM/FKM, which is red. Refrigeration

The Eurotubi Pressfitting system is particularly appreciated in the refrigeration sector, both in the commercial area for food storage and in the medical field for storing pharmaceutical products. Pipes and fittings are used for both the abduction lines for chilled water from the condensation plant to the cold rooms and by the manufacturers of the cold rooms in building the internal circuits.

The choice to use carbon steel or stainless steel varies based on the different refrigeration technology, the operating pressures and temperatures, and the possibilities of insulation.


Naval

The construction of plumbing systems in the marine environment requires specific attention due to the constant contact with salt air and/or brackish water, which greatly increase the risk of corrosion of metals. For this reason, can be used AISI 316L stainless steel near saline environments or to convey brackish water, while for salt water transportation only cupronickel should be used. Both are certified with the specific and strict RINA approval.

Electrical

In recent years, the use of stainless steel pressfitting pipes and fittings for the protection and distribution of electrical networks has become widespread in particular contexts where cables cannot be embedded and where the external use of traditional plastic or aluminium ducts is not suitable. For example, mountain tunnels subject to cold temperatures or modern architectural design structures where the appearance is fundamental. In these cases, stainless steel is preferred for both its resistance to weather as well as its appealing glossy appearance. In these areas, the hermetic seal of the joints between the pipe and fitting is not a determining factor since in some cases they may not even be pressed
